New Text-to-Speech Feature on Website Benefits Diverse Communities

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is introducing an innovative way to address the needs of diverse community audiences. A new text-to-speech feature, available on the FCPS website and each school website, will read the words aloud from webpages.

The feature will help people who need accessibility, such as the visually impaired or those with dyslexia, aging populations, and those challenged with reading large amounts of online text.

The text-to-speech feature is available for English, Spanish, and Korean. Now, FCPS’ two largest non-native English speaking populations will be able to hear content in their home languages.

For those who need convenience, the text-to-speech feature is available when viewing FCPS’ website via mobile devices. People can listen to content on-the-go.

To use the feature, select either English, Korean or Spanish from Google Translate menu and an audio player bar appears below the page title. Click the play button to listen to the text.

Scroll up to the top of this page to try it.
